Container for accommodating and storing radioactive materials, and process for sealing the container

In order to obtain a container which is sufficiently gastight, the end of the internal bore of the container is opened out into a conical surface. A closing lid with an equally conical jacket surface narrowing to the inside of the container is pressed into the section of the conical surface. The container wall and closing lid are welded together by a circumferencial weld joint. The conical design of the end of the contained and the closing lid gives much better sealing between the container wall and the closing lid. (orig./HP)
