Analysis of the cross-section of neutron inelastic scattering on 235U

Description

A technique is described and results are given of a calculation of neutron inelastic scattering cross sections by a 235U nucleus. On the basis of recent data on the structure of 235U nucleus levels, inelastic neutron scattering cross section sigma'n and excitation cross sections of separate levels of a target-nucleus in the energy range from the threshold to 3.5 MeV are calculated. The competition effects of fission and radiative capture reactions have been taken into account in the calculations. The effect of fluctuation of neutron and fissional widths is taken into account in the range of resolved levels. The calculation of neutron inelastic scattering cross sections has been carried out by the NERIS programme in the ALGOL for the ''ALFA'' translator. Partial cross sections are calculated for 19 levels of the 235U nucleus discrete spectrum with a maximum energy E=414.76 Kev. Over this energy, the level spectrum has been considered as continuous. Levels with spin I>13/2, whose contribution to sigma'n (E) is insignificant, are neglected in the calculations. The parameter a of the level density is determined for a 2/H35U nucleus by the value of the average observable distance between levels in the range of resolved resonances
