The use of high energy accelerators in the nuclear fuel cycle
Description
Nuclear power is at present derived from the burning of 235U which constitutes about 0.7% of the natural uranium resource. A long-term supply of nuclear fuel for electrical power generation would require breeders to convert 238U, or 232Th, into fissile material. Accelerator breeders offer an alternative to the fast breeder reactor for this conversion. (author)
