Isotope dilution analysis - an experiment
Description
This article describes how a sample of iodine-131 labelled tin(IV) iodide can be used to estimate the mass of tin(IV) iodide present in admixture with sodium chloride, by isotope dilution analysis. As this topic is included in a variety of advanced chemistry course syllabuses, for example, GradRIC, LRIC and advanced chemical technicians, the experiment is widely applicable. It can be performed in a relatively short time (approx. 3 h) with good results and high student interest. (author)
