The changes of the rat glioma cell apoptosis and proliferation after gamma knife treatment

Description
Objective: To evaluate the changes of apoptosis level and proliferated activity of the rat glioma model before and after gamma knife treatment. Methods: 50 rats planted with C6 glioma cell were treated with gamma knife, at different time before and after irradiation, to observe the apoptosis of the glioma cell by flow cytometry and the proliferated activity by PCNA immunohistochemistry. Results: The apoptosis rate was increased significantly after gamma knife treatment (P<0.01), and reached peak at the 48th h; The positive cells number of PCNA in the treatment group is significantly less than the control group, and continued to decrease with the following time point. Conclusion: In addition to the necrosis, the decrease of the proliferation level and the increasing of the apoptosis rate may also the factors which inhibit the tumor growing after gamma knife irradiation
