Description
The article underlines specific approach to assessment of heavily-detectable radionuclides (HDRN) on A1 NPP, as it concerns NPP after an accident. Fission product contamination is high due to the accident. Fission products originate from damaged fuel elements. Composition of radionuclides in fuel elements is known from the validated calculation of inventory using code ORIGEN (compared with AECL calculations). Specific waste flows with potentially varying composition of radionuclides are described. Radionuclides inventory, ratios of HDRN to reference Cs-137 and determination of relative content of so-called trace radionuclides represent basis for proposed semi-empirical model that allows estimation of relative content of HDRN in radioactive waste and in material from A1 decommissioning. It is shown that besides dominant Cs-137 only some HDRN are significant: Sr-90, TRU (Pu -239,40, Am-241) (authors)
