Distribution of metal oxides in the water steam circuit of BWR

Description

To find out more about activity built up in the water steam circuit of a BWR, for several years of a KKP internal program, the chemical elements which build the corrosion products, the activity concentrations of the activated elements and the specific activity of the corrosion products in the water steam circuit have been measured. It could be seen that there is a considerable volatility of the corrosion products with steam in accordance with data from Styrikovich. More knowledge about corrosion product chemistry in the water steam circuit was gained by specific activity measurements. From these results it can be concluded that a bigger amount of the non-activated corrosion products from the feedwater passes the reactor without being deposited and activated there. As a consequence there should be more than one ''soluble'' specie in the reactor water. By using chemical and physical separation methods indications for these species could be seen. (author)
