Mass-spectrometer with ions multiply passing through the magnetic field

  • 1. AN Kazakhskoj SSR, Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan). Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

A static mass spectrometer was manufactured and tested; in these mass spectrometer ions pass 3 times, the field generated by a magnet whose poles have the shape of regular hexagons. Radius of ion trajectories in the magnetic field was 120 mm while mass dispersion - 2820 mm. The mass spectrometer ensures energy focusing and forming in two angles of beam divergence; all geometrical aberrations of the second order are corrected as well. Ion-optical circuit of the device is described, theoretical fundamentals of similar circuits are presented as well as the test results. Resolution of 1 4000 is achieved at the level of 10% of peak height, the width of inlet and outlet slots, being 0.1 mm
