Mist facility densitometer comparisons

  • 1. Babcock and Wilcox Co., Research and Development Div., Alliance Research Center, Alliance, OH (USA)

Description

Data are presented which improve the confidence of two-phase density and void fraction measurements in a small-break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) test facility. Six dual-beam gamma densitometers were used in the Multi-Loop Integral Systems Test (MIST) Facility to make void fraction and fluid density measurements. The densitometers were located in the reactor coolant system hot legs and cold legs to better characterize mixing and condensation processes during the LOCA test. The densitometer based measurements were supported over the range in void fraction from 0 to 1 by neighboring instrumentation including a thermocouple rake, differential pressure measurements, and viewports
