Hyperfine quenching: review of experiment and theory

We give a brief outline of the theory of hyperfine quenching followed by a review of the progress that has been made in both theory and experiment since the pioneering work of Garstang (J. Opt. Soc. Am. 52, 845 (1962)). (author)
