NPP 'Belene' project's suspend in Republic of Bulgaria
Description
General characteristics of the site Belene are presented. The development of the project since 1981, when the site has been chosen for the construction of the second NPP in Bulgaria is discussed in details (seismic zonating; project development; large-scale construction, decision about the project hold up). Due to financial reasons in 1991 the construction works came to a temporary stop. At the same time some uncertainty about the project safety occurred. In order to solve the problems some measures have been taken. Studies have been made for a re-assessment of the project. Analyses have been preformed in the following directions: seismic safety of the containment's foundation; seismic safety of the water supply facilities; hydrology; radiological impact; information system for radiological conditions; events resulted from human activities
