Magnetic behaviour of U1-xGdxLaAl4 system

Description
The magnetic properties of the U1-xGdxLaAl4 system were investigated in the 4-600 K temperature range and fields up to 8 T. The ULaAl4 compound shows magnetic behaviour typical for a spin fluctuations system. When uranium is replaced by gadolinium magnetic ordering is evidenced. In the paramagnetic region the susceptibilities follow a Curie-Weiss type behaviour. For increasing gadolinium content a decrease of the effective uranium magnetic moments was observed. This behaviour was attributed to a gradual quenching of spin fluctuations by the internal field. (orig.)
