A crack initiation criteria for evaluating the cumulative damage effect in fatigue

Description

In the present paper, a criterion is suggested for determining the interface between the crack initiation and propagation phases for smooth specimens subjected to cyclic loading. The criterion is then used in connection with the double linear damage rule for predicting the sequence effect usually observed in fatigue. The concept is applied to the experimental data obtained from a 304 stainless steel subjected to two and three increasing or decreasing strain level at room temperature. (author)
