Description

We simulate the growth of two-dimensional quasicrystals using an Eden-type algorithm based on the local matching rules for Penrose rhombi. As expected for a local procedure we find that defects of all sizes are produced. Surprisingly, although long-range order is destroyed, we find that quasi-long-range order persists. The signature of quasi-long-range order can be seen in the logarithmic divergence of phason fluctuations. (author). 14 refs, 6 figs
