Workshop of IAEA experts on cross sections of fast neutron fission of 235U and on neutron spectra from 252Cf fission

Description

Information is presented on the international consultative meetinc. held from March 28 - April 1, 1983 in Smolenice, CSSR. The aim of the meeting was to contribute to the elaboration of recommended values pretending to standard values, of cross sections of 235U fission by fast neutrons (0.1 to 20 MeV), and to the description of the shape of neutron spectra from spontaneous fission of 252Cf. The meeting stated that accuracy of cross sections of 235U fission for neutron energy from 0.1 to 20 MeV is 2 to 4%. The only exception is 1% accuracy for 14.5 MeV neutrons. The meeting also arrived at the conclusion that at the energy interval of E/sub n/=0.1 to 6 MeV the shape of the neutron spectrum from 252Cf fission may well be described by the Maxwell function E/sub n//sup 1/2/.exp(-E/sub n/T/), where T=1.42 MeV.
