Experience with the Coating of Fuel in a 5 Inch Fluidised Bed
Description
Development work is described leading t o the scale-up and improvements in design for a 5 inch Internal Diameter high temperature fluidized bed production coating unit with a single concentric gas inlet at the lower conical end of the column. Concurrent production development was carried out on the coating of UO2/C10 and porous and dense UC2 fuel particles. This work was extended to production of Dragon Reactor Experiment driver fuel and of fuel for the Mk.III-H Physics Programme, respectively. Problems associated with this development are described and typical production results are given. (author)
