Malignant esophageal strictures: palliative treatment with self-expanding metallic stent implantation

Description

Objective: To evaluate the effect of self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) in the management of malignant esophageal Strictures. methods: 25 cases (21 males and 4 females, aged 46-68 years) with malignant esophageal strictures were undergone SEMS implantation including 2 esophagotracheal fistula, 1 esophago-mediastinal leakage. Results: The symptoms were markedly relieve in all the patients and the stents within esophagus pertaining the patency with follow up for 2-18 months. Conclusions: SEMS implantation is a valuable treatment in the palliative management of malignant esophageal strictures
