Design of a 8-kW refrigeration system for ITER common test

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Naka, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

The Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute is working on the detailed design of the helium refrigeration system (8 kW) for the Central Solenoid Model Coils which will be fabricated and tested in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) R and D project. The helium refrigeration system consists of a supercritical helium cryogenic pump unit, helium refrigerator/liquefier unit, etc. The design will take into consideration the various coil operation modes, refrigeration efficiency, economy, and research and development of the cryogenic components required for the ITER.
