Cosmic strings and an improved upper bound on the energy density during inflation
Description
The absence of gravitationally bound systems with size > 10 Mpc is used to show that the energy density V during inflation satisfies V1/4 < 2 x 10-3 MPL. In the cosmic string scenario of galaxy formation this bound becomes a strong one, which makes it difficult to give the strings enough energy per unit length. (orig.)
