Biliary Ileus: A Case Report
Description
The biliary ileus is defined as a small bowel obstruction secondary to the impaction of a gallstone in the gastrointestinal tract, which is responsible for approximately 1 to 4% of mechanical intestinal obstructions and is associated with high morbidity and mortality (1). Computerized tomography is the current gold standard for the diagnosis of this condition seen with neumobilia, pneumocholecystitis, direct visualization of bilio-enteric fistula, air- fluid levels, of free fluid in the peritoneal cavity and ectopic location of a gallstone (2).
