Microscopic approach to description of the elastic scattering of heavy ions

  • 1. Joint Institute for Nuclear Research

Description

A microscopic approach is developed for investigation of the elastic cross sections of reactions induced by heavy ions which permits study of the structure of the nucleus in these processes. The interaction potential of the heavy nuclear particles is constructed with inclusion in the calculation procedure of numerical values for the density of the nuclei, obtained in a microscopic approach and tested on a set of experimental data. In calculation of the cross sections for scattering of heavy ions, only the amplitude of the forces in the imaginary part of the optical potential is varied. Elastic scattering of the ions 6Li, 12C, and 16O by targets of 58/sup ,/60Ni, 90Zr, 124Sn, 142/sup ,/144Nd, and 208Pb is studied. It is shown that in a microscopic approach it is possible with only one free parameter to reproduce the experimental results on the elastic scattering of heavy ions. The microscopic structure of the wave functions of the nuclei is manifested in the reactions investigated
