No relationship between forest dying and nuclear energy

  • 1. Keuring van Electrotechnische Materialen N.V., Arnhem (Netherlands)

Description

The author considers the theory of Reichelt according to which a relationship should exist between damage to forests (by means of acid rain) and the site of nuclear plants/uranium mines. Successively discussed are: the accuracy of the isomal method used by Reichelt; the alleged synergism of radiation and SO2; enhancement of the radiation level caused by H-3 and C-14 intake; molecular changes by incorporation of H-3 or C-14. It is concluded that there is no clear evidence to suppose that nuclear power plants may damage forests. (G.J.P.)
