Testing nonlinear dynamic simulations
Description
Recent advances in the qualitative theory of nonlinear dynamical systems suggest that the correctness of large-scale numerical simulations can be verified by more sophisticated methods than simply comparing masses of numbers. One of the key concepts in the qualitative theory is the notion of chaotic attractors representing long-term dynamic behavior which may appear random, but in fact has a simple structure when looked at in the right way. Understanding chaotic attractors is crucial to assessing recurrent dynamics in any nonlinear system with dissipation
