Mechanism of hydroquinone oxidation with xenon difluoride

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow (USSR). Inst. Khimicheskoj Fiziki

Description

Reqularities of hydroquinone oxidation (QH2) with xenon difluoride and concentration variations of ion-radicals of semiquinoNes (Q-+) in this process are investigated. QH2 single-electron oxidation by final product of its transformation, that is, n-benzoquinone is determined to be the main reaction of Q-+ formation. It is shown, that in the limiting stage of QH2 and XeF2 interaction the transfer of two reducing equivalents occurs and free radicals of donor and acceptor in solvent valume are not formed. Dependence of rate constant of limiting stage on medium acidity is strudied
