L-H transition, density clamping, and radial electric field in tokamaks
Description
Changes in the radial electric field may be responsible for the L-H transition and density clamping phenomena observed in tokamaks. If the dominant particle and energy loss mechanisms are fluctuation-induced transport fluxes, then particle and energy confinement improve as the radial electric field becomes less positive, changes from positive to negative, or become more negative.
