Description
Among the numerous factors which determine the competitiveness of fossil carbonized energies with respect to other energies (nuclear, renewable), a key factor is the possibility to manage greenhouse gas emissions at reasonable costs. The body of this report proposes a synthesis of three modelling studies performed to address this issue. Two of them (Optimal carbon capture and sequestration from heterogeneous consuming sectors, Optimal timing of carbon capture policies under alternative CCS cost function) show that an active policy of sequestration must be implemented before reaching a critical concentration threshold only if capture possibilities (and their average costs) are different according to the use of resources, and if these capture possibilities are the same whatever usages be (the average capture cost then depends on the release flow to be processed). The third study (Triggering the technological revolution in carbon capture and sequestration costs) is an attempt of definition of policies aimed at reaching reasonable costs
