Detection of new twins in monoclinic rare earth sesquioxides (B-Ln2O3) by electron microscopy
Description
An electron microscope study of twins in monoclinic rare earth sesquioxides is done. Two equivalent reciprocal twins are already known in these oxides. This study shows the existence of two other couples of reciprocal twins which nearly leave the superlattice unchanged, and have a multiplicity of three. The twinned crystals will frequently appear as rotation domains giving rise to characteristic images of the phase transformation A-Ln2O3 (hexagonal) → B-Ln2O3 (monoclinic). (author)
