Nuclear structure effects far from stability and their consequences on rapid-neutron-capture processes

  • 1. Institut fuer Kernchemie, Universitaet Mainz, Fed. Rep. Germany

Description

Rapid-neutron-capture processes in explosive astrophysical environments lead to the production of nuclei far away from β-stability. It is shown at the examples of solar and meteoritic isotopic anomalies around /sup 48/Ca and for the observed r-abundance peaks at A≅80 and 130, that an understanding of the nucleosynthesis in such environments is intimately related to an understanding of the nuclear-structure properties of far-unstable nuclei
