The role of nitrogen in swelling of 316 stainless steel

  • 1. Science Univ. of Tokyo (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

The role of nitrogen on swelling of 316 stainless steel was investigated by using a HVEM. Irradiations and in-situ observations were performed at doses up to 10dpa at 773K and 823K. It was found that the swelling increased and decreased as nitrogen content increased. The result is similar to the effect of He on the swelling. This behavior was interpreted by phenomenological equations. (author)
