Spectroscopy of 39Ar using the 37Cl(3He,p)39Ar reaction
Description
Proton spectra from the 37Cl(3He,p)39Ar reaction were taken at bombarding energies of 17 and 19 MeV at angles between 5 and 450. A total of 28 states was observed below 5 MeV, most of which can be identified with states reported in other reactions. Between 5 and 7 MeV 19 more peaks were seen. However, many of these peaks probably contain more than one state. Dominating the spectrum is the transition to the 9.078 MeV level, which is the analog of the 39Cl ground state. An even stronger transition is expected to the anti-analog state, which is predicted to be at about 2.4 MeV, but no such transition was found. Evidence is presented that indicates that the 3.383 MeV state contains much of the anti-analog configuration but there is no apparent explanation for either the state being so weakly fed, except perhaps fragmentation to higher states, for which there is some evidence, or for it lying at so high an energy. The analog and several other states exhibit an L = 0 angular distribution. However, the code TWOPAR gives a poor fit to both the ground and the first excited state transitions
