Mass-loss mechanisms in white dwarfs and sdOB stars are discussed, reviewing the results of recent theoretical investigations. Consideration is given to particle-transport velocities, meridional circulation and turbulent diffusion, atomic diffusion and mass loss, separation in winds and in the atmosphere, envelope separation and reservoir size, He abundances, and radiative accelerations and mass loss. Numerical data are presented in tables and graphs. 25 references
