Description
Volatile compounds produced from the mixture of the elementary metal, metal oxides, or metal hydroxides composed of nuclear fission products were identified by X-ray fluorescent spectroscopy for the purpose of identification for volatile compounds emitted by the accident of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and investigation of transformation processes of the fission products. As the results, I2, Te, and MX (M = Cs, Rb and X = Br, I) were obtained. In the case of the sample containing excess amount of UO4∙4H2O, it was found that the Mo compound was volatile. Moreover, the reaction of CsI and elementary iron was investigated. The iron(0) was oxidized and the iron(III) oxide-hydroxide containing Cs+ was produced. (author)
