Development of advanced analysis method for fast breeder reactor core

  • 1. Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp., Tokyo (Japan)

Description

Many studies are under way in Japan in an effort to provide effective core analysis methods to support the national project for liquid-metal cooled fast breeder reactor development. Here, some studies are presented which are aimed at development of cell calculation and core calculation procedures required for the analysis. Six reports are included. The first report addresses a study which uses a multiple drawer model to investigate heterogeneous arrangements of and interaction between a core and blanket drawers. The second report deals with analysis of fast reactor criticality experiments designed for bias factor evaluation for core parameters to be used in LMFBR core design calculation. The third report deals with multiple group (70 groups) calculation for determining the streaming effect of a heterogeneous fast reactor fuel assembly consisting of a pin handling portion and a wrapper tube. The fourth study seeks to achieve cell uniformity by reactivity conservation. The fifth report adresses the development of a blanket cell calculation method. The sixth report deals with the development of three-dimensional transport program, called TRITAC, which uses a diffusion synthesis acceleration method to solve reactor eigenvalue problems. In the seventh report, calculations of core parameters by the three-dimensional transport-diffusion program TRITON are compared with those by other programs. (Nogami, K.)
