The European earthquake catalogue as a basis for site selection and component design
Description
The Catalogue of European Earthquakes contains some 55,000 seismic events that happened in member countries of the European Communities, Switzerland and Austria of which are of interest about 20,000 events with intensities higher than 4. It was prepared on the basis of already existing national catalogues and includes historical data as well as present-day data. All data are harmonized as far as possible to the same intensity scale (MSK-scale) to make them suitable for computerization. This reduced version of the catalogue with intensities higher than 4 is also available in printed form. Compilation of seismic data can provide a basis for statistically supported studies of site selection procedures, the qualitative assessment of seismic risks, and for component design. (author)
