Creators
- 1. State Enterprise Radioacvtive Wastes, Specialized Division PRRAW-Novi han, Novi Han (Bulgaria)
Description
The Permanent Repository for Radioactive Wastes (PRRAW) was constructed in 1964. The facility was designed for storage of radioactive waste from the application of radioactive sources in medicine – for diagnostics and treatment, as well as in industry, science and education. According to the Bulgarian National Strategy for Spent Nuclear Fuel and RAW Management there are 3 stages in the process of decommissioning of the PRRAW: Stage 1 - till 2025 (preparatory activities) - discharge of RAW from aboveground storage units; Stage 2 - 2025 - 2030 - RAW extraction and underground dismantling radon-type storage facilities and Stage 3 - 2040 – final survey and remediation
