The streaming effect in gas-cooled fast breeder reactors

Description

The importance of neutron streaming in the GCFR is evaluated by taking into consideration the anisotropy due to coolant and control rod channels. Calculation is done using a numerical-analytical method developed in this paper and compared with results obtained using the methods of Benoist and Ligou. Comparison of the results obtained by these three methods shows that streaming effect is strongly dependent on the axial buckling 'B22'. The influence of neutron streaming on the reactivity is shown to be negligilbe and, in consequence, the GCFRs may be considered homogeneous to a good approximation. For accurate calculation the neutron streaming should be considered, mainly for radiation damage and shielding calculation

Avaliou-se o efeito de 'streaming' de neutrons no reator GCFR, levando-se em conta a anisotropia ocasionada pela presenca dos canais de refrigeracao e canais de barras de controle, atraves de um metodo numerico-analitico desenvolvido neste trabalho e os metodos de Benoist e Ligou. No confronto dos metodos, os resultados mostraram que a dependencia do 'buckling' B22 na derivacao dos coeficientes de difusao, e muito importante. A influencia deste efeito na reatividade e pouco sensivel de modo que em alguns calculos neutronicos, o sistema pode ser considerado homogeneo. Para calculos que requerem mais precisao deve-se considerar este efeito principalmente nos casos de blindagens a danos de radiacao
