Preliminary evaluation of an experimental prototype of positron emission tomography (PET)

  • 1. Beijing Medical Univ. (China). First Hospital

Description

Phantom tests and animal tests were performed on an experimental prototype of PET made in China. The detector of the PET with 64 close-packed BGO crystals in a single 24 cm diameter ring had a spatial resolution of 5.5 mm in FWHM and reconstruction time of 25 s. The positron emitters tested were 11C, 18F, 22Na, 64Cu, and 68Ga. The image of rabbit heart blood pool and gastrointestine as well as the image of a monkey skull suggest that the performance of this prototype PET has basically met the requirements of practical purposes. It may be applied to some animal or human studies
