Neutral pion photoproduction reactions on light nuclei

Description

This paper reports on a theory of partial reactions γA → π0 A* (E) of the formation of a nucleus in the base or excited state which is developed in the impulse approximation. Effects of Fermi motion of nucleons in the nucleus are considered and the correct procedure is used for transition in the photoproduction operator from a pion-nucleon system of notation to a system coupled with the nucleus. Using the model of shells with intermediate coupling, general equations are derived for the amplitudes and cross sections of π-meson photoproduction on s- and p-shell nuclei and differential cross sections of the formation of π0 mesons on the nuclei 4He, 5Li and 9Be are calculated. The dynamic rules of selection are discussed in such reactions, as are the effects of pion-nuclear interactions in the final state. In-elastic partial reactions are analyzed with emission of a γ quantum by the final nucleus. Calculated values are compared with available data
