Determination of quadrupole transition amplitudes by polarized-deuteron scattering

  • 1. Sektion Physik, Universitaet Muenchen, D-8046 Garching, Germany

Description

The inelastic scattering of 20-MeV vector-polarized deuterons from 24Mg, 28Si, 32S, and 54Cr provides an experimental determination of sign and magnitude of the quadrupole mass transition amplitudes <21+parallelQ/sup m/parallel21+>, <22+parallelQ/sup m/parallel22+>, and <01+parallelQ/sup m/parallel22+><22+parallelQ/sup m/parallel21+> <21+parallelQ/sup m/parallel01+>, which correspond to the static quadrupole moments Q21+ and Q22+ and the P3 interference term in the case of electromagnetic transitions
