Study of recent tectonic movements of earth's surface with respect to needs of nuclear power

Description

In survey and site selection of nuclear power plants, it is important to perform studies on the current dynamics of terrain on the future sites of the power plants. With respect to seismicity and seismotectonics, the area of interest stretches to 150 to 200 kms from the building site. The closer area of interest covers a circle of about 10 to 30 kms from the site. This shows that data on recent motions are desirable both in the regional scale for the whole territory of Czechoslovakia and the neighbouring countries, and in the local scale for each area of the projected site. In agreement with the Decree of the Government of the CSSR No. 174/81 it is necessary that geodesists perform a preliminary assessment of recent deformations of the earth's surface in the selected areas and assure complex observation of the recent tectonic motions of the projected nuclear power plant building site.
