Radiation protection programme for planned exposure situations in diagnostic radiography
Description
The discovery of x-rays in 19th century by Wilhelm Roentgen had made some significant positive contributions in medicine and other fields, continuous development has led to in improvement in proper and safe use of ionizing radiations. Human beings get exposed to ionizing radiation during planned radiation exposures and may contribute to the annual cumulative dose of the operator or patients. Thus, protection of humans from the influence of ionizing radiation is a major challenge in radiation biology. Therefore, establishment of the applied guidelines for radiation protection including radiation protection programme and normal operating policies and procedures should be implemented. The main structure of this programme involves responsibilities of some organizations such as nuclear regulatory body, health facilities, registrant, licensees and other concerned institutions where there is use of ionizing radiation for better safety and protection. It is recommended that all concerned people and organizations should put their power together for better achievement of goals of radiation protection and safety. (author)
