Elastic constants of the (RE)2Fe14B tetragonal compound (RE = Y, Nd, and Pr)

Description
Elastic data of polycrystalline (RE)2Fe14B (RE = Y, Nd and Pr) intermetallic compounds have been estimated using the values of longitudinal and transverse velocities of the sound waves measured by means of the pulse echo overlap technique at 5 MHz. The calculated values of Debye temperature, Young modulus and Poisson ratio are presented. In addition the contribution of the magnetoelastic interactions to the elastic constants has been investigated. It can be concluded that magnetostrictive strains do not significantly cotribute to the elastic constants
