Study of phase transformations in titanium alloys. I - Contribution to the study of transformation kinetics in Ti 6% Al - 6% V - 2% Sn titanium alloy

Description

Studies performed on Ti 6% Al - 6% V - 2% Sn are introduced by a short presentation of a preliminary work on phase transformations in Ti 6% Al - 4% V titanium alloy. T.T.T. curves about transformations of Ti 6% Al - 6% V - 2% Sn show that above 700 deg. C, β (BCC) → α (HCP) is the only active reaction. α' martensite appears below this temperature and until 600 deg. C a double break down takes place: β → α and α' → α + β. Below 600 deg. C, α' remains even after lengthened holdings. Below 500 deg. C, a very important hardening is ascribed to ω phase precipitation. Systematic mechanical tests have allowed to establish relationship between mechanical properties and the most characteristic microstructures. (authors)

Abstract (French)

Un expose rapide d'un travail preliminaire sur les transformations d'un alliage de titane Ta6V introduit l'etude de celles du TA6V6E2. Les courbes T.T.T. relatives aux transformations du Ta6V6E2 montrent qu'au dessus de 700 deg. C c'est la reaction β C.C → α H.C. qui est seule mise en jeu. En dessous de cette temperature apparait de la martensite α' et l'on assiste jusqu'a 600 deg. C a une double decomposition: β → α et α' → α + β. Au-dessous de 600 deg. C, α' subsiste meme apres des maintiens prolonges. Un durcissement tres important au-dessous de 500 deg. C est attribue a la precipitation de phase ω. Des essais mecaniques systematiques ont permis d'etablir la correlation entre les proprietes mecaniques et les etats structuraux les plus caracteristiques. (auteurs)
