Diode pumped Nd:YAG laser using optical pump cavity

  • 1. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Teajeon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

An optical pump cavity is used for side pumping a small diameter Nd:YAG rod with a stacked diode laser array. This cavity provides compact geometry compared to a fiber coupled or a circularly symmetric, close coupled arrangement. With the 300 W pump power of the stacked diode array having 15 mm X 10 mm emitting area, 42 W laser power is obtained from the 0.9at.% Nd:YAG crystal rod with the size of 3 mm X 45 mm. The optical-to optical conversion efficiency between diode array output and Nd:YAG laser is 18%. The laser output beam shows uniform intensity distribution.
