Description
The mechanisms capable of creating orbital electron polarization in charge exchange processes are critically analysed with specific application to B3+ + He → B2+ (2p) + He+ collisions where a strong effect was observed recently. A new mechanism is proposed which is related to the lag between the electron orbital momentum and the internuclear axis in the inner interaction region (beyond the avoided crossing radius for the initial and the final potential curves). It leads to strong polarization oscillating with the scattering angle. (author)
