Perthes' disease in radionuclide imaging - early diagnosis, natural course and therapeutic consequences
Description
A four year study on radionuclide imaging in Perthes' disease is reported. The results reveal that radionuclide imaging facilitates the earliest diagnosis possible as well as the differentation against other affections of the hip. In eleven cases (diagnoses ascertained by X-ray follow up or biopsy) the duration of the course of Perthes' disease was shortened and the ultimate outcome was improved because of the early onset of therapy. Follow up examinations with radionuclide imaging and quantification on uptake reveal the extent of revascularisation of the necrosis of the femoral head and the epiphyseal plate at any point in time during the course of the disease. This leads to prognostic and therapeutic consequences, particularly in view of expected head at risk signes in the development of Perthes' disease. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Anhand einer Vierjahresstudie wird ueber nuklearmedizinische Untersuchungen bei Mb. P. berichtet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass mit der Szintigraphie eine sichere Fruehdiagnose und Differentialdiagnose des Mb. P. moeglich ist. Die durch moegliche Fruehbehandlung (11 im Roentgenverlauf oder Biopsie gesicherte Faelle) verkuerzt die Krankheitsdauer und verbessert die Endergebnisse. Durch szintigraphische Verlaufskontrollen kann das Ausmass der eingetretenen oder ausbleibenden Revaskularisation der Femurkopfnekrose und der Epiphysenfuge zu jedem Zeitpunkt beurteilt werden. Daraus ergeben sich prognostische und therapeutische Konsequenzen auch im Hinblick auf zu erwartende Kopfrisikofaktoren. (orig.)Additional details
