Hemopoietic stem cell kinetics in 4000 r irradiated spleens
Description
The kinetics of hemopoietic stem cells have been studied after the whole or a portion of the mouse spleen was exposed to 4000 rads. The results point out that stem cell renewal in vivo is dependent on microdiffusion of a stimulus produced by highly radioresistant, specialized cells. The existence of these cells, called ''sources,'' can at present be inferred only according to functional and radiobiologic criteria
