Classification of flare situations applied to interplanetary and magnetospheric disturbances

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Zemnogo Magnetizma, Ionosfery i Rasprostraneniya Radiovoln

Description

Classification of solar flare events based on taking account of the expected interplanetary and magnetospheric perturbations is introduced. Flare fluxes quite isolated, partly isolated and non-isolated from solar flares in the interplanetary space are considered. These events have discriminated on the basis of a real hydrodynamic situation in the interplanetary space and of time intervals between power flares (time series). The ratios between fluxes inside the time series and flare zones on the Sun relative to helioprojection of the Earth have been determined. The introduced classification has been applied to power solar flares during 1966-1974 yrs. The majority of solar flares (about 91%) are combined into series consisting of two, three and more flares, whereas single flares make only 9% of the total number of power flares
