Chemical separation of nilsbohrium as eka-tantalum in the form of dehydrated bromide
Description
The behaviour of radioactive recoil atoms of niobium, tantalum, hafnium and other elements from nuclear reactions with heavy ions on the cyclotron when stopping in a mixture of Br2 and BBr3 vapours and with continuous transfer to a thermochromatographic nickel column together with the bromating carrier gas was investigated. It was found that niobium and tantalum bromide form sharp adsorption zones in the column at the same place and are separated from hafnium. The time which the niobium atoms need from the target to adsorption in the column is 0.1-0.2 sec. The method is thus suitable for investigating the properties of the nilsbohrium bromide using the known spontaneous fissioning 2-sec isotope of the element 105. (orig./LH)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
