Neutron and radionuclide production in hadronic cascades in water detectors

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Moscow (Russian Federation). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The neutron yield and the spatial distributions of the spallation events produced in hadronic cascades in water caused by negatively charged pions at energies 0.3-10 GeV are calculated in terms of the Dubna version of cascade model as well as the quark-gluon string model used at higher energies of particles by the SHIELD code. The nuclear deexcitation code is used to take into account the Fermi break up, multifragmentation and evaporation (or fission) processes. 26 refs., 4 figs., 2 tabs
